Russian forces, unable to control the northwestern part of the Black Sea with their naval fleet, occasionally attempt to demonstrate their dominance in the air by launching guided missiles at Snake Island.
This was reported by the head of the Joint Press Center of the Operational Command 'South,' Natalia Humenyuk, during a briefing at the Ukraine-Ukrinform Media Center, commenting on attempts by Russians to strike Zmiinyi (Snake) Island.
"As for Snake Island, it is clear that in conditions where the enemy cannot control the northwestern part of the Black Sea with their naval fleet, they try to exert pressure through aviation. They try from time to time to demonstrate their dominance, at least in the air. There have been cases where tactical aviation aircraft conducted reconnaissance there and attempted to target guided aviation missiles, which were generally unsuccessful and lost their combat capability over the sea area," emphasized Natalia Humeniuk.
According to her, the very fact of attempting to terrorize this region indicates more about attempts to disrupt the functioning of the navigation corridor.
"Because it is precisely along Snake Island that recommended maritime routes pass," explained Humeniuk.
