Russian forces used 29 kamikaze drones for an air attack on Ukraine during the night of May 21, launching them from three directions. Almost all strike drones were destroyed by the air defense forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This was reported by the Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleschuk.
"On the night of May 21, 2024, the enemy attacked with 29 Shahed-131/136 strike UAVs from three directions: Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Kursk (Russia), and Cape Chauda (Crimea)," he said.
Defense efforts According to the Air Force Commander, combat operations to repel the night air raid took place across 7 regions, involving:
- Mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces,
- Anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force and Ground Forces,
- Fighter aviation,
- Electronic warfare units.
"As a result of the air defense battle, 28 Shaheds were shot down in the Odessa, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Kherson, and Kirovohrad regions," Oleschuk informed.
