Two years ago, on June 6, 2023, Russian forces blew up the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, leading to the flooding of towns and villages, loss of human life, and the destruction of ecosystems.
This was reported by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
According to him, the Russian terrorist attack on the Kakhovka HPP is one of the most serious crimes committed by the occupiers and has caused Ukraine significant losses.
“Today, the government is actively continuing efforts to eliminate the consequences of the disaster. Water supply is being restored, major water pipelines are under construction, rivers are being cleared, and the agricultural sector is being supported. Work is also underway to restore the soil and natural balance so the region can return to full life,” the Prime Minister noted.
He also added that Ukraine aims not only to repair the damage caused by the catastrophe but to make the region stronger, more resilient, and more comfortable. To achieve this, the government is attracting international assistance to accelerate the recovery.
The damages from the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP have reached $14 billion — seven times higher than the initial estimates.
