On April 27th, in the town of Murnau am Staffelsee, in the federal state of Bavaria, Germany, two Ukrainian citizens, aged 34 and 23, were killed as a result of stab wounds in a local shopping center.
According to information from the Consulate General of Ukraine in Munich, the Garmisch-Partenkirchen police detained a 57-year-old Russian citizen on suspicion of committing the double murder. The investigation is ongoing.
Preliminary data suggests that the deceased individuals were military servicemen undergoing medical rehabilitation in Germany. Ukrainian consuls are clarifying information regarding the units in which the deceased served and are establishing contact with their relatives.
Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba instructed the Department of Consular Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Consulate General in Munich to keep the case under special control and to maintain constant contact with law enforcement agencies in Germany to ensure that the perpetrator is punished to the fullest extent of the law.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also expressed gratitude to the German law enforcement authorities for the prompt arrest of the suspect.
At the site of the tragedy, Ukrainians living in Germany created a small memorial with candles, flowers, and portraits of the deceased.
