As a result of repatriation efforts, the bodies of 501 deceased individuals have been returned to Ukraine. According to the Russian side, they may belong to Ukrainian military personnel.
The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War announced this on Facebook.
"Investigators from law enforcement agencies, together with representatives of expert institutions, will carry out all necessary measures to identify the repatriated deceased," the Coordination Headquarters said.
The repatriation efforts were carried out as a result of joint work by representatives of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Joint Center under the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Missing Persons under Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, and other structures of Ukraine’s security and defense sector.
The Coordination Headquarters expressed gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross for its assistance and support in implementing the repatriation efforts, as well as to the personnel of the Joint Center for Civil-Military Cooperation Support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The center transports repatriated remains to specialized state institutions, organizes the transfer of fallen soldiers’ bodies to law enforcement representatives within the Ministry of Internal Affairs system and forensic medical examination institutions within the Ministry of Health system, and coordinates with the Armed Forces’ civil-military cooperation structures responsible for overall coordination.
