Photographer Sasha Maslov and Saint Javelin have created a photobook titled "Saints," documenting the stories of people during full-scale war.
The photobook is now available for pre-order on the website of the Ukrainian publisher Ist Publishing and on the Saint Javelin website.
Sasha Maslov is a Ukrainian photographer who contributes to The New York Times, New York Magazine, Wall Street Journal Magazine. He is the author of the photobooks "Ukrainian Railroad Ladies" (2020, "The Basics"), "Veterans: Faces of World War II" (2017, Princeton Architectural Press), and "Portrait Assignment" (self-published).
The publication contains over 100 photographs and stories of individuals serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, volunteering, and carrying out their daily duties to defend the state, according to the publisher. They add that many of the heroes and heroines in these stories have either perished or are considered missing in action.
"Maslov speaks about a new understanding of sanctity and self-sacrifice that has evolved over the course of the 10-year war," commented the publishing house.
"This book is about the personal sacrifices of people who have chosen to stand against the cruel and barbaric invasion taking place in Europe in the 21st century, witnessed by the entire world," explains the author of the photobook, Sasha Maslov.
"Saint Javelin was known for memes and jokes, but we wanted to create a more serious, documentary project to tell the stories of people defending Ukraine," says Christian Boris, founder of Saint Javelin.
Almost a third, 30% of the proceeds from the sale of the book on the Saint Javelin website, will be directed towards the purchase of tactical medical equipment for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as part of the initiative by the World Congress of Ukrainians, Unite with Ukraine.
