Spain will not supply Leopard tanks to Ukraine, which were located at a military base in Zaragoza. Examinations showed that the equipment is unsuitable for use and dangerous for people.
According to the portal El Mundo, this statement was made by the Minister of Defense of Spain, Margarita Robles.
âToday we are considering all the possibilities, but I can already say that [tanks] Leopard, which has not been used in Zaragoza for many years, cannot be sent [to the war in Ukraine], because they are in a deplorable state,â Robles said.
According to the Minister of Defense, Spain conducted the relevant examinations and established the unsuitability of the equipment for use. Tanks are dangerous for people who will use them on the battlefield. Therefore, the country "cannot ship" the tanks.
Recall that information about the transfer of heavy weapons to Ukraine from Spain appeared in the media on June 5. It was about anti-aircraft missile systems and reactivated Leopard 2A4 battle tanks.
The media also reported that Spain planned to transfer 40 old German-made Leopard 2 battle tanks to our country. However, the German government did not allow this.
Such data appeared on June 11, and a month later, other information was published in the media, saying that Spain is still seeking to supply Ukraine with Leopard 2A4 and M113 tracked armored personnel carriers. Allegedly, the package would include ten units of the first equipment and 20 units of the second. Now, however, tank deliveries have been canceled.
