The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has detained a man who coordinated massive Russian air attacks on the Ukrainian capital.
According to the investigation, the suspect was acting on orders from the Russian FSB. His main task was to identify and transmit the coordinates of air defense systems and mobile fire groups defending Kyiv.
Available intelligence suggests that Russia intended to first destroy Ukraine’s air defense and then freely target the city’s civilian infrastructure.
The Russian agent turned out to be a 41-year-old warehouse worker at a local enterprise. He had been recruited through the banned Russian social network VKontakte.
On the aggressor’s instructions, the man would go out during air raid alerts to locate mobile fire units and air defense systems operating in the Kyiv region. If he found any such units, he was expected to report them as "targets" to his Russian handler, so they could be hit in future strikes.
SSU officers exposed him early in his intelligence-gathering activities and detained him while he was spying near a base of Ukrainian defenders.
A mobile phone with evidence of his cooperation with the FSB was seized at the scene.
In the course of documenting the case, the SSU also conducted special measures to secure the positions of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
The suspect has been officially charged under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason under martial law). He is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
