The Security Service has prevented the escape of an RF agent from Ukraine, who was gathering intelligence about the Armed Forces on the eastern front.
After completing a hostile task in Donetsk region, the perpetrator traveled to Vinnytsia region, from where he attempted to "evacuate" to the unrecognized Transnistria.
Law enforcement officers detained the suspect as he was preparing to cross the border river, using a hydro suit and fins.
The detainee turned out to be a resident of Dnipropetrovsk region, who graduated from a Moscow State University in the early 2000s and obtained a law degree. According to available information, during his studies, the man came under the scrutiny of Russian special services. After graduating from the Russian university and returning to Ukraine, he did not engage in intelligence activities in favor of the RF.
However, the situation changed after the start of full-scale Russian invasion. As the investigation found out, in 2023, he approached a local military enlistment office and was mobilized to one of the Ukrainian army brigades. After being assigned to the military unit, he was later sent to positions of the Ukrainian forces near Bakhmut.
Upon arriving in the frontline area of Donetsk region, the man began to leak information to the Russian forces about the locations and movements of Ukrainian army units near the frontline. He transmitted intelligence information to a Russian chatbot administered by representatives of Russian military intelligence.
After several communication sessions with the Russian special services, realizing the inevitability of punishment, the agent fled from the area where his unit was stationed. He then took a taxi to the Vinnytsia region border to escape to the unrecognized Transnistria and hide from justice there.
He is currently in custody. He faces life imprisonment.
Comprehensive measures were carried out by the Security Service in Vinnytsia region jointly with the State Border Guard Service under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office.
