In Kyiv, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting with President of the National Council of the Federal Assembly of the Swiss Confederation Maja Riniker.
The Head of State emphasized that this visit reflects her personal support and solidarity with Ukraine.
“I believe these are important signals in such a challenging time for our people – to see leaders of countries, supporters, our partners who stand with us. And to see them not only in the capital. We truly value that,” the President said.
Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Switzerland for its support in humanitarian demining and financial assistance, in particular for the decision to allocate 5 billion Swiss francs for Ukraine’s recovery over the coming years.
The President also noted the organization of the Peace Summit in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, last year. Although it did not bring peace to Ukraine, it was an important step in the peace process.
“Our position remains unchanged: we condemn Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, and we remain committed to a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace, international law, and the UN Charter,” Maja Riniker emphasized.
The discussion also covered the need to strengthen sanctions pressure on Russia, with a specific focus on the supply of critical components and technologies to the Russian Federation that are used in the production of drones and missiles. It is important to put an end to any such supplies and ensure that defense manufacturers exercise control over where their products end up.
Volodymyr Zelensky and Maja Riniker also addressed the issue of returning Ukrainian children who were abducted or unlawfully transferred by Russia. The President emphasized that this is one of Ukraine’s top priorities and underscored the importance of Switzerland joining the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children and supporting the Bring Kids Back UA initiative, which has already helped return around 1,500 children. Switzerland is currently considering this step, and relevant procedures are underway in its parliament.
They also discussed the operations of Swiss companies in Ukraine. Volodymyr Zelensky expressed gratitude that they are not only maintaining jobs in the country, but also expanding them. It is important for Ukraine that Swiss businesses remain in the country and continue their operations.
