At the UN Security Council, the representative of the aggressor country said that the occupiers "protect" nuclear power plants, particularly "from terrorist attacks."

Russia's permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, did not support the proposal to create a demilitarized zone around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. He spoke about allegedly possible "provocations" by Ukraine.

According to Nebenzya, the invaders allegedly "protect" the nuclear power plant, particularly "from terrorist attacks."

“The demilitarization of the station can make it vulnerable to those who want to visit it. Nobody knows what their goals and objectives will be. We cannot rule out some kind of provocation, terrorist attacks on the station, which we must protect,” Nebenzya said cynically, Interfax quotes.

  • Recall that Russian invaders have controlled Zaporizhzhia NPP since March 4. Also under the occupiers is the satellite city of NPP-Energodar.
  • On August 6, the invaders hit the site of the Zaporizhzhya NPP directly next to the spent nuclear fuel storage facility.
  • The NNEGC Energoatom stated that Russia wants to disconnect the Zaporizhzhya NPP from Ukraine's energy system and de-energize the country's south.
  • Ukraine at the UN Security Council put forward conditions for the IAEA mission at the ZNPP: withdraw Russian troops and return Ukrainian control over the plant.
