The Ministry of Energy and the branch of the British non-governmental organization, The Mines Advisory Group (MAG), have signed a memorandum that involves collaboration for demining Ukrainian energy facilities and their adjacent territories.
The memorandum, signed in the presence of the Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko and the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero of the United Kingdom, Grant Shapps, was signed by the Deputy Minister of Energy Yaroslav Demchenkov and the Director of MAG's Branch, John Cunliffe.
"Demilitarization of energy facilities is crucial. Unfortunately, the restoration of energy supply is hindered by widespread mining, especially in the demilitarized territories. Many Ukrainian energy companies are willing to train their specialists, procure equipment to expedite demining. We thank MAG for being ready to provide such assistance," said Halushchenko.
The memorandum envisions cooperation to create conditions for the safe reconstruction of Ukrainian critical energy infrastructure by clearing energy object structures, their premises, and adjacent territories of explosive objects and their parts that pose a threat to human life and health, as well as ensuring the proper and safe functioning of energy objects.
Additionally, MAG will provide technical assistance and advisory support for:
- Successful implementation of awareness measures about the mine danger.
- Technical and non-technical surveying and demining of territories.
- Facilitating the creation of a safe environment for the socio-economic development of regions affected by hostilities.
