From May 31st to June 9th, the International Documentary Film Festival DocudaysUA will take place in Kyiv, opening with one of the most talked-about premieres from the Berlin International Film Festival — the film "Intercepted" by Ukrainian director Oksana Karpovych. At this year's Berlinale, the film received a special mention from the Ecumenical Jury in the Forum section and a special mention from the Amnesty International jury.
"Intercepted" is a film constructed from intercepted conversations of Russian forces with their relatives. It's an unconventional road movie shot in Ukrainian territories affected by full-scale Russian invasion, showcasing the destruction caused by the invasion. The audio of the film is based on intercepted phone calls of Russian soldiers with their relatives. These are the same "peaceful people/intercepted" distant from war, whose expressions shock with particular cruelty.
Oksana Karpovych is a Ukrainian-Canadian filmmaker, writer, and photographer. She lives and works between Kyiv and Montreal. After its premiere in Berlin, Oksana Karpovych's film garnered significant international attention and was invited to be screened at many leading film forums. The next festival in Ukraine where the film "Intercepted" will be shown is the Mykolaychuk OPEN in Chernivtsi (June 15-23).
The film will be released in Ukrainian theaters on August 29th.
