The front line is already two kilometers from Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region, stated Andriy Beseidin, head of the city’s military administration, during a television marathon.
According to him, Russian forces are constantly attempting to launch assaults in the direction of Petropavlivka-Hlubivka, which belongs to the central part of the city of Kupiansk.
"The enemy is trying to reach the main route from Svatove to Kupiansk to then advance to the city itself. The situation is also very difficult on the direction of Zahrizove-Lozova-Kruhlyakivka, where the enemy is consistently launching assaults, trying to reach the left bank of the Oskil River," Beseidin said.
The head of the military administration emphasized that these actions of Russian forces pose a threat not only to Kupiansk but also to Vovchansk.
"The enemy is trying to establish itself in the town of Dvorichna – on the right bank of the Oskil River – and increase its foothold. If it succeeds in doing this and moves equipment to the right bank, there will be a threat of advancing into the rear and towards the Vovchansk direction, as well as directly into the city of Kupiansk," he explained.
Beseidin urges residents to evacuate the community, but notes that on average only five people a day leave the Kupiansk community, which includes 12 settlements.
In October 2024, an obligatory evacuation was declared for all residents from four communities in the Kupiansk district, including the city of Kupiansk. At that time, the head of the regional military administration, Oleh Synyehubov, informed that some settlements in the Kupiansk district were just about 4 kilometers from the front line.
Local authorities emphasize that a support center for evacuees operates in Kharkiv, providing housing and other necessary assistance.
