The hockey player sent an open letter to the NHL, ATP and WTA
Legendary hockey player Dominik Hasek called for excluding all Russian athletes from international competitions to hasten the end of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
The legend of world hockey sent his letter to the leadership of the National Hockey League (NHL), the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), and the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) on Twitter.
He said he wrote the open letter to once again draw attention to how some sports organizations contribute to the continuation of the war in Europe, which claims hundreds or even thousands of lives every day.
âThis is an attempt to save these lives and hasten the war's end in Ukraine. Russian athletes should not participate in international competitions at this time. I ask all sports leagues worldwide to consider this decision,â Dominik wrote.
Hasek also accused the Russian Federation of illegally annexing Ukrainian territories and destroying civilian infrastructure. He noted that Russia's actions have already led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people.
The legendary hockey player accused the Russian authorities of horrific crimes and the kidnapping of Ukrainian children, which is genocide. He also expressed confidence that Russia should be punished after withdrawing its troops from Ukraine.
In addition, Dominik Hasek said that all international sports associations that did not exclude Russian athletes from competitions are also responsible for the crimes committed in Ukraine.
The legendary hockey player expressed the hope that Russian athletes would be banned from any international competition.
