The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has codified and approved for use in the Armed Forces the new domestic medical armored vehicle Kozak-5MED. This vehicle is designed for evacuating wounded and injured soldiers from the battlefield.
The Kozak-5MED is built on the chassis of the American heavy-duty pickup truck Ford F-550 and can transport four stretcher-bound wounded or six seated individuals, in addition to the driver and the medical evacuation team. The vehicle is equipped with a diesel engine producing over 330 horsepower and an automatic transmission.
The armor of the medical vehicle provides protection for the crew and passengers from shrapnel and 7.62 mm caliber bullets. Additionally, the vehicle's undercarriage has reinforced protection that can withstand an explosion equivalent to 6 kg of TNT.
Currently, Defense Forces medics use various vehicles for evacuation depending on the situation. These include modified Soviet-era tracked MT-LB vehicles, British FV104 Samaritan vehicles, specialized Bogdan pickups, American HMMWV M1152, and various models of ATVs and hexacopters.
Information: According to the Main Directorate of Life Cycle Support for Armaments and Military Equipment, the procedure for obtaining a NATO nomenclature code for a new armament and military equipment (AME) sample is simplified to 10 days. Domestically produced AME samples that have undergone codification are allowed to be purchased with state budget funds.
