The Russians are experimenting with strike FPV drones equipped with wired communication means.

Military expert in radio technology, Sergey Flesh, reported this.

Ukrainian military discovered a intact Russian strike FPV drone of unusual design on the battlefield, as it carried not only an explosive payload but also a reel of wire of unknown purpose.

The drone was handed over to specialists from the separate battalion of strike UAVs "Madjar Birds" for further study.

"We saw something we had never seen before. The Russian FPV drone flew to its target with a reel of thin optical fiber cable 10 kilometers long. The cable was unwinding in the air. Thus, we see a new technology for controlling FPV drones," Sergey Flesh said.

The use of wired communication in UAV control provides a significant advantage: such a drone becomes immune to both its own and enemy electronic warfare systems.

Thanks to the wire, the UAV operator will have a constant, uninterrupted video signal of high quality, significantly increasing the accuracy and effectiveness of strikes.

Additionally, the operator no longer experiences the "radio horizon" phenomenon, where communication is lost during the final meters of descent.

Currently, it is unknown at what stage the development of such drones is for the Russians, but the fact remains that their first prototypes have appeared on the front lines.

Sergey Flesh noted that such a solution was also proposed during the January hackathon of the Ministry of Defense, where promising developments in the field of unmanned systems were presented. However, at that time, this idea did not receive support due to the high risk of breaking the fragile optical fiber during flight.
