The Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine has disrupted an illegal scheme in Kirovohrad region aimed at exporting dual-use goods subject to export control from Ukraine.
This pertains to auxiliary gas-turbine engines and navigation equipment for multi-role Mi-8 helicopters.
The equipment in question was being sold by a former official of the Kropyvnytskyi pre-trial detention center, who was attempting to find potential buyers by posting advertisements on specialized websites.
To transport the goods to foreign customers, the individual intended to use international freight services. In an attempt to conceal the illegal export, he tried to provide false information in the cargo transport declarations.
Security personnel timely exposed the equipment, documented it step by step, and thus prevented the illegal export of aviation components and software abroad.
Based on the evidence collected, the offender has been served with charges under Part 1 of Article 333 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the procedure for international transfers of goods subject to state export control).
Currently, an investigation is ongoing to determine the origin and final recipients of the helicopter equipment.
Additional preparations are underway for the transfer of the confiscated property for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
