Counterintelligence of the Security Service thwarted an attempt by the aggressor to obtain coordinates of defense forces in the border areas of Chernihiv region.

As a result of the special operation, an FSB agent who was tracking the locations of fortifications and checkpoints defending the northern borders of Ukraine was detained.

He also attempted to identify the approximate locations of Ukrainian air defense missile systems.

To gather intelligence, the suspect cycled around the area and covertly photographed the locations of defense forces. He intended to transmit the obtained information to the occupiers via messenger as media files with geotags.

SSU operatives acted preemptively, apprehending the Russian agent in advance and preventing the transfer of intelligence to the aggressor. According to the investigation, the detainee is a local utility worker who was recruited remotely by an FSB employee from the border department of the FSB RF in the Bryansk region. His identity has already been established by the Security Service.

The traitor came under the occupiers' scrutiny at the end of 2023 due to his anti-Ukrainian posts in pro-Kremlin Telegram channels. Later, he was involved in intelligence and subversive activities for the FSB.

During the search of the suspect's residence, mobile phones, computer equipment, and other material evidence of criminal activity were seized.

Security Service investigators have informed him of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed in conditions of martial law).

Currently, the perpetrator is in custody, facing life imprisonment.

Counterintelligence measures were carried out by SSU personnel in Chernihiv region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
