The Security Service of Ukraine has arrested an informant of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) who infiltrated the Zaporizhia Regional Military Administration to provide the enemy with information about the activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the south of the country.
According to the Ukrainian security service, in October of this year, the suspect secured a position as the chief specialist in the cyber security department of the regional military administration. He attempted to covertly obtain secret information about the deployment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and defense procurement within the region. In an effort to access classified information, the Russian "mole" tried to use his access to the government agency's servers.
SSU operatives apprehended the individual, thus preventing the transfer of sensitive intelligence to the aggressor.
According to the investigation, the enemy informant is a resident of Zaporizhia and has an engineering degree. Prior to his employment at the regional military administration, he worked at a local company responsible for servicing military equipment for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It has been established that in September of this year, he offered his assistance to the occupiers in the war against Ukraine. He did so by contacting one of the Russian chatbots created to gather information about the movements of Ukrainian military units in the front-line regions.
Subsequently, a personnel officer of the FSB reached out to him remotely and engaged him in cooperation. At the direction of the Russian security service, the individual covertly captured images on his phone of the production facilities of the plant and the military equipment located there. He also attempted to identify repair bases and other logistical centers of Ukrainian defenders within the regional center.
During searches, the arrested individual's mobile phone, which contained evidence of subversive activities in favor of the Russian Federation, was seized. SSU investigators have informed him of the charges against him, and he is currently in custody.
