The Government of the Swiss Confederation has decided to allocate 14 million Swiss francs for the financing and supply of rail fasteners to restore the railway infrastructure and the smooth functioning of railway transport. The Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction signed the corresponding grant agreement today - the Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure, Oleksandr Kubrakov, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Switzerland to Ukraine, Claude Wild.
"Since the first days of the full-scale invasion and almost every day, the railway has been subjected to terrorist attacks by the Russian Federation. Despite this, the company continues to perform its most important functions - to provide evacuation and transportation of passengers, transportation of humanitarian goods and goods necessary for the country's defense capability."
The cooperation of Ukrzaliznytsia with the Swiss Confederation will allow financing of the goods, works, and services necessary to strengthen almost 300 km of the railway network in Ukraine.
This is an important contribution to maintaining the road network's stability and Ukraine's recovery.
"I am grateful to the Government of the Swiss Confederation and Ambassador Claude Wilde and am confident that the implementation of this project will be the first successful stage of our cooperation in this direction," commented Oleksandr Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine.
Delivery of rail fasteners should take place in 2023. The works are planned to be carried out on key highways.
