The United World Wrestling Bureau (UWW) has revised the criteria for allowing neutral athletes with Russian and Belarusian passports to compete.
This was announced on the official UWW website.
Under the new rules, the grounds for disqualification from competitions will only be evidence of direct military involvement in the war against Ukraine or public statements in support of military aggression.
Thus, athletes from Russia and Belarus who are part of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the National Guard, and other security forces but have not publicly supported the war in Ukraine will be able to participate in international tournaments.
It is noted that the federation will also review all previous cases of disqualification of Russians and Belarusians that were made earlier.
However, despite the easing of the admission criteria, wrestlers from Russia and Belarus must compete only as neutral athletes. This means that the ban on the use of national anthems and state symbols remains in effect.
