In Budapest, the final qualifying tournament of the Olympic Qualifier Series concluded, determining the three athletes who will represent Ukraine in breaking at the 2024 Olympic Games.
Based on the results of the breaking tournaments for the Paris Olympics, Ukraine will be represented by Anna Ponomarenko (b-girl Stefani), Kateryna Pavlenko (b-girl Kate), and Oleh Kuznetsov (b-boy Kuzya), all of whom ranked among the top ten b-girls and top eight b-boys in the world.
Georgiy Matyukhin (b-boy Dach), co-founder of the NGO Street Culture, will lead the Olympic breaking team, while Denis Semenykhin (b-boy Gimnast) will prepare the athletes for the decisive battles. The Olympic team is supported by the platforms Street Culture & Algorithm of Actions and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine.
Breaking was officially recognized as a sport in Ukraine in December 2021, and this year it will debut for the first time at the Olympic Games. Its debut will take place in an urban setting at Plac Zgody Square at the end of the Games, on August 9 and 10, 2024.
A total of 32 athletes (16 b-boys and 16 b-girls) from around the world will compete for Olympic medals. Each country can be represented by a maximum of four participants.
