The list of 450 best developing universities in Europe and Central Asia for 2022 (QS Emerging Europe and Central Asia University Rankings 2022) includes 41 Ukrainian universities, according to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
Ben Souter, director of the analytical center QS Quacquarelli Symonds, the institute calculating the rating, said that the number of Ukrainian universities among the best in Eastern Europe and Central Asia has grown to 41, which is an absolute record in the history of this regional rating.
At the same time, only three Ukrainian universities made it to the top 100: Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (35th place in 2022, 33rd place in 2021), Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (63rd place in 2022, 66th place in 2021), V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (69th place in 2022, 67th place in 2021).
Compared to 2021, the number of Ukrainian universities increased from 25 to 41: 16 universities entered the ranking for the first time, four improved their positions, and seven kept them.
When compiling the rating, ten indicators were taken into account:
- Academic reputation of an educational institution
- Reputation among employers
- Ratio of the number of teachers and students
- Number of publications per teacher and employee
- Number of citations per publication
- Proportion of foreign teachers and employees
- Proportion of foreign students in the total
- Proportion of teachers on the total of employees
- Employees with a scientific degree
- Depth of international scientific collaborations
- Presence of the educational institution in the online environment
