The United Kingdom is investing in six new plants to restore its artillery ammunition production capabilities.
According to the UK Defence Journal, in response to growing global threats and the depletion of weapons stockpiles, the British government has announced a £1.5 billion investment to build at least six new factories.
The plants will carry out the full production cycle, including both the shells for 155mm and 105mm artillery rounds and the explosives themselves. Defence Secretary John Healey stated that the move is aimed at ensuring the constant readiness of the Armed Forces and strengthening national security amid rising threats.

This initiative is part of a broader strategic defence review, which includes plans to increase defence spending to 2.5% of GDP by 2027, with a further rise to 3% under the next parliament.
Total defence spending during the current parliamentary term will reach £6 billion. These continuous orders and production will allow the UK to replenish its stockpiles quickly, respond to future threats, and maintain credible deterrence.
