Ukraine has received €46.1 million in loan funds from the European Investment Bank (EIB) under four projects supporting urban development. The funds have been transferred to the special fund of the state budget, the Ministry of Finance reported.
In particular, €13.3 million each was received under the projects Municipal Infrastructure Development Program and Ukraine Urban Public Transport, €14.7 million under Ukraine Urban Public Transport II, and €4.8 million under Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings in Ukraine.
The funds are directed toward the reconstruction of water supply and sewage systems, the reclamation of the Hrybovychi landfill near Lviv, implementation of energy efficiency measures in public buildings, and the purchase of public transport rolling stock in Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Lviv, Zaporizhzhia, Uzhhorod, Ternopil, Kamianske, Dnipro, and Kremenchuk.
To date, the EIB has provided Ukraine with over €168 million to achieve the goals of these projects. The largest share — €121.1 million — has gone toward upgrading public transport rolling stock in Ukrainian cities.
The Ministry of Finance clarified that the funds are provided to Ukraine under the European Union’s Ukraine Facility initiative, which involves financing backed by guarantees from the European Commission.
“This support is extremely important, especially in the current conditions when the Government of Ukraine is directing all domestic resources to meet the needs of the security and defense sector,” noted Deputy Minister of Finance Olha Zykova.
As reported earlier, the EIB’s loan portfolio in Ukraine consists of 27 projects with a total value of €4.7 billion.
