JSC Ukrzaliznytsia and the Polish State Railways have agreed to develop rail connections between the two countries. This was reported by the UZ press service.
Ukrzaliznytsia held negotiations with Polish railway representatives, who visited Ukraine for the first time since the large-scale invasion began. The Polish delegation included the President of the Management Board of Polskie Koleje Państwowe S.A. and the PKP Group Alan Beroud, the President of the Management Board of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. Piotr Wyborski, and representatives from PKP Intercity, PKP CARGO, and PKP LHS.
The Chairman of the UZ Board, Yevhen Lyashchenko, noted that significant progress has been made in the interaction between Ukrainian and Polish railways over the past few years. New passenger routes have been launched, cargo transportation issues have been resolved, and the operation of border crossings has improved.
"It is important to focus on strategic projects and addressing the most critical issues. Together with Polish colleagues, we thoroughly discussed all aspects of joint work and closely examined the problematic issues in the operation of transition points and border stations. We expect concrete solutions by the end of the year," said the head of Ukrzaliznytsia.
Alan Beroud, President of the Management Board of PKP S.A., said that the signing of a joint declaration would strengthen cooperation with Ukrainian Railways. The development directions outlined in this document will help build a strategic partnership between PKP and UZ, both organizationally and business-wise.
The Ukrainian-Polish team discussed improving the quality of rolling stock and expanding seat availability on the Lviv-Warsaw route via Rava-Ruska, as well as ensuring convenient connections, including to trains to Berlin, Vienna, and Prague. Ukrzaliznytsia proposed to Polish colleagues to reconsider launching an additional train on the Kyiv-Warsaw route.
