The 33-year-old native of Mykolaiv claimed the second spot on the podium of honor at the Grand Prix in Orléans. The silver in Orléans-2023 became Olga Kharlan's 28th career medal in the Grand Prix series tournaments
This information was reported by the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine's Telegram channel.
"Zero tournaments without a medal - under this motto, our distinguished sabre fencer Olga Kharlan starts the Olympic season," stated the NOC.
The committee emphasized that Kharlan is the only one who could compete with the hosts of the track, and three representatives of France joined her on the podium at this competition.
Her victory over the two-time world junior champion, Korean Jeon Ha Yeon (15:13) in the quarterfinals guaranteed the Ukrainian athlete a medal. However, she didn't stop there and went on to defeat the experienced French fencer Cécilia Berder (15:11). Only in the final did she concede to her compatriot, two-time Olympic medalist Manon Brunet (12:15).
"The silver in Orléans-2023 became the 28th medal in Olga Kharlan's career at the Grand Prix series!" announced the NOC.
