Widespread Russian attacks damage Ukrainian cities, cause civilian casualties

On the night of July 22 and into July 23, Russian forces launched a series of intense drone and missile strikes across multiple Ukrainian regions, causing significant destruction to civilian infrastructure, triggering fires, and inflicting numerous injuries, including among children.

Odessa

In Odessa, Russian strike drones attacked a parking lot where several vehicles caught fire. The blasts also shattered windows of a multi-story residential building and caused damage to a nearby store. Emergency service psychologists were deployed on site to support affected civilians. Preliminary reports indicate one person was injured in the attack, according to the State Emergency Service.

Dnipropetrovsk Region

The evening and night saw heavy Russian shelling across four districts in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Serhii Lysak, head of the regional military administration, reported several drone strikes causing fires and damage to infrastructure facilities and private homes. In the Mahdalynivka community of Samarskyi district, an infrastructure facility was hit, causing a fire that has since been extinguished. The Vasylkivka community suffered fire damage to a state-owned enterprise, while a garage was damaged in the Mezhova community by an FPV drone strike.

A 24-year-old woman was injured during an airstrike involving guided bombs, and ten private homes were destroyed. Additionally, the enemy employed an FPV drone to attack the Zelenodolsk community in Kryvyi Rih district, damaging critical infrastructure. The Nikopol district experienced drone and artillery strikes, causing loud explosions and disturbances in the district center as well as in the Marhanets and Pokrov communities.

Local air defense units successfully shot down 14  drones over the region overnight, preventing further damage.

Donetsk Region

In Donetsk, Russian forces killed three civilians and injured 12 others on July 24, according to Vadym Filashkin, head of the regional military administration. The fatalities included residents of Kramatorsk, Kostiantynivka, and Zarichne. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, at least 3,373 civilians have been killed and over 7,600 injured in Donetsk, excluding figures from the occupied cities of Mariupol and Volnovakha.

Kherson Region

The Kherson region endured 522 strikes over the past 24 hours, targeting 14 populated areas and injuring seven people. Settlements such as Antonivka, Bilozerka, Kizomys, and Kherson city itself were hit. Damage included two apartment buildings, three private houses, a theater building, agricultural machinery, and private vehicles, according to Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the regional military administration.

Zaporizhzhia

Zaporizhzhia faced a barrage of missile and drone strikes overnight, damaging nine private houses. Ivan Fedorov, head of the regional administration, reported that Russian forces launched 373 drones—mostly FPV types—alongside 142 artillery strikes across several towns and villages including Kamianske, Huliaipole, and Malynivka. Multiple launch rocket system strikes were also reported in Malynivka. Emergency services are working swiftly to mitigate the destruction and assist affected residents.

Kramatorsk

Kramatorsk in Donetsk was hit by a guided aerial bomb during the night, targeting a multi-storey residential building and causing a fire. Tragically, a child born in 2015 was confirmed dead, and five others were injured. All victims are receiving medical treatment, as confirmed by Oleksandr Honcharenko, head of the city’s military administration.

Sumy Region

On July 21, the city of Putyvl in Sumy region suffered two drone attacks on a gas station, injuring 11 people, including a 5-year-old boy. Shortly after, guided aerial bombs struck civilian infrastructure in the city of Sumy, leaving 13 more injured, including a 6-year-old child. The attacks damaged multiple residential buildings, private homes, a shopping center, and vehicles. The Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office has launched preliminary war crimes investigations into the strikes.

Kherson 

In the Kherson region, Russian strikes on the village of Inzhenerne and the Dnipro district of Kherson city wounded three civilians—a 62-year-old man, a 54-year-old man, and a 55-year-old woman—who sustained blast injuries and shrapnel wounds. Emergency medical teams promptly provided care.

Kharkiv region

Meanwhile, in the Kharkiv region, the city of Izium was attacked by drones, hitting an unused warehouse and causing a fire. Rescue teams responded quickly, and no casualties have been reported.
