Ukraine will launch a project for the production of Japanese pickups using the semi-knockdown (SKD) assembly technology. This is a joint project between several Ukrainian manufacturers and a Japanese machine-building company. This was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko, during a business forum organized by the Japan External Trade Organization.

"Together with Ukrainian partners, the Japanese company plans to start production of pickups using semi-knockdown technology, and in the future, they plan to switch to full-knockdown production (CKD). This is a good signal to other Japanese investors that localizing their products' production in Ukraine is a mutually beneficial cooperation. During a meeting with more than 200 Japanese entrepreneurs, I called on other companies to open production facilities in Ukraine or localize their technologies in cooperation with Ukrainian companies," emphasized Yulia Svyrydenko.

During the meeting with Japanese business representatives, the First Deputy Prime Minister also spoke about available support tools for investors ready to enter the Ukrainian market, particularly through programs within the "Made in Ukraine" policy.

Yulia Svyrydenko pointed out that over 40 key Japanese companies are currently operating in Ukraine.

"Ukraine has a long-standing manufacturing and engineering tradition, a significant fleet of modern equipment, which makes Ukrainian industrial enterprises promising partners for production cooperation with Japanese companies. The government, in turn, offers support in the form of compensation for projects with significant investments, as well as tax and customs privileges within industrial parks. Ukraine, together with its partners, is also developing tools for insurance against war risks," added Yulia Svyrydenko.

According to her, investors currently have access to war risk insurance from the U.S. Development Finance Corporation (DFC), the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), foreign export credit agencies, and Ukraine's own Export Credit Agency (ECA).

Yulia Svyrydenko thanked Japan for its contribution of $36 million to the SURE Trust Fund, which strengthens the capabilities of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).

She also expressed gratitude to Japan's international cooperation agencies JICA and JICS for their support projects for Ukraine, including placing orders with Ukrainian enterprises and implementing the principle of "help Ukraine with Ukrainian products," as well as Japan's export credit agency NEXI.

"Japan has allocated approximately €1.25 billion through NEXI initiatives, providing reliable financial support for Japanese companies ready to invest and operate in the Ukrainian market. We are counting on strengthening cooperation between Ukraine's Export Credit Agency and NEXI, especially in the context of mobilizing capital for Ukraine's ECA. We also look forward to further cooperation with Ukrainian businesses in key economic sectors to attract Japanese technologies," added Yulia Svyrydenko.
