At the end of 2024, the Ukrainian industrial company Interpipe successfully completed a major contract ahead of schedule, delivering 10,000 railway wheels to Indian Railways, the state-owned enterprise that operates India's entire railway network.

The annual contract involved the supply of standard 1,000 mm freight wheels for open wagons and BOXN-type covered wagons, according to the company’s press service.

Logistics posed a particular challenge. Most of the wheels were shipped through European seaports, while the final batches were dispatched from Ukrainian ports. The shipping crisis in the Red Sea extended transit times to India, as the newly adjusted route required bypassing Africa. Nevertheless, all shipments were delivered to the client on time.

"The Company has been a reliable partner of Indian Railways for more than 25 years. This large one-year order was the first since the full-scale Russian invasion into Ukraine began, so it was extremely important for us to fulfill it successfully and ahead of schedule. In January, 2025, we received the next order from Indian Railways, and in general, this year we plan to double the volume of freight wheel deliveries to the railway operator," said Alexander Garkavij, Director of Interpipe’s Railway Products Division.

Interpipe is a Ukrainian industrial company specializing in steel pipes and railway products. Its products are supplied to more than 50 countries through a network of trade offices in key markets across the Middle East, North America, and Europe. In 2023, Interpipe sold 387,000 tons of pipe products and 95,000 tons of railway products under the KLW brand.

The company employs approximately 9,500 people, including around 950 employees currently serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other security forces.
