The first part of the Memorial to Ukrainian Intelligence Officers was opened in Kyiv ahead of the third anniversary of the full-scale invasion. During the opening ceremony, the authors of the memorial's concept, architect Andriy Lesyuk and sculptor Nazar Bylyk.

The composition features two steles symbolizing wings and shields. Their dynamic relief represents movement, struggle, strength, and tireless resistance. Between the two steles is a space of silence, where the names of those who courageously fought for Ukraine are engraved.

“We, as the authors of the concept, aimed to create a special space, an emotional presence where the memory of the heroes comes to life,” said sculptor Nazar Bylyk during the opening.

“This space, with its two steles, green planting, and additional elements, will be divided into intimate areas for commemoration, peace, and for each of us who comes here and finds their own place to connect with the heroes,” added architect Andriy Lesyuk.

From a bird's-eye view, the composition of the steles and the central element will resemble the shape of an eye: a symbol of eternal vigilance, protection, and invisible presence. The memorial will also serve as a space that helps tell more about our heroes.

Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the Ukrainian Military Intelligence (HUR), took part in the opening of the first element of the Memorial to Ukrainian Intelligence Officers. After honoring the fallen comrades with a moment of silence, the leader of Ukrainian intelligence delivered a speech.

“It is symbolic that, on the eve of the third anniversary of the full-scale invasion, we are laying the foundation for the main element of the Memorial to Ukrainian Intelligence Officers. Now, more than ever, the words of Yevhen Konovalets are relevant—that Ukraine is an unconquerable bastion of heroes and fighters. This memorial is our tribute and gratitude to those heroes who lived and fought, and returned on their shields. The warriors-intelligence officers have gone into eternity, but they will always remain in our hearts, in the history of Ukraine’s struggle, and will serve as a guide for future generations. Ukraine is engaged in an existential war. I am confident that with strength, we will achieve a just peace. Evil will be defeated and punished. Thank you to all those who fight for Ukraine and to everyone who helps us,” said Kyrylo Budanov.

The Head of the Ukrainian Military Intelligence also expressed gratitude to the creators of the Memorial to Ukrainian Intelligence Officers, as well as to philanthropists Volodymyr and Olena Besah, whose joint efforts made the creation of this space possible.

Eternal glory to the intelligence officers who fell for Ukraine in battle!

Honor to all the warriors who continue the fight!
