Latvia has allocated an additional €125,000 to help restore Ukraine’s energy facilities and stabilize the country’s energy system.
This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine following a meeting in Kyiv between Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and his Latvian counterpart Baiba Braže.
According to the ministry, the discussion focused on supporting Ukraine’s energy system ahead of winter. The Ukrainian side expressed gratitude for Latvia’s additional contribution, noting that the €125,000 will assist in restoring damaged energy infrastructure, ensuring uninterrupted power supply, and strengthening overall system stability.
Sybiha thanked Latvia for its comprehensive support since the first days of the full-scale invasion, including its annual defence assistance amounting to 0.25% of Latvia’s GDP. In total, Latvia’s support has already exceeded 1.6% of its GDP.
“This includes weapons, ammunition, training for Ukrainian service members, and financial assistance. We are also grateful for Latvia’s participation in PURL and for the recent transfer of 42 PATRIA 6x6 armoured personnel carriers,” the minister added.
Sybiha also expressed appreciation for Latvia’s contributions to rebuilding critical and civilian infrastructure in Chernihiv region, as well as for hosting Ukrainian children for rest and recuperation.
The ministers discussed the implementation of this year’s reconstruction projects in Chernihiv region worth €5.7 million, as well as priorities and plans for the coming year.
