Lithuania will join the Czech Republic's multilateral initiative to purchase and transfer ammunition to Ukraine, confirmed Prime Minister Ingrida ŠimonytÄ— on Monday after a phone call with Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, reported by Delfi.
"This is a very important initiative, especially at this time when the deliveries of ammunition to Ukraine have slowed down. As before, Lithuania will continue to support all formats of assistance that will enhance Ukraine's ability to effectively defend itself against Russian aggression, thereby defending the freedom of the whole of Europe," said ŠimonytÄ—.
As indicated by the government, within this initiative, countries participate in joint procurement and transfer of ammunition to Ukraine, identifying available stocks of ammunition for purchase or sources for rapid production.
During the phone call, the Prime Ministers of Lithuania and the Czech Republic also discussed the security situation in the region, the importance of increasing investments in defense in Europe, and the determination to strengthen bilateral Lithuanian-Czech relations.
