NATO fighter jets scrambled 7 times over the week in response to Russian aircraft

Last week, from December 7 to 14, NATO fighter jets in the Baltic region scrambled seven times to identify and escort Russian aircraft that violated flight rules.

This was reported by the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence.

It was noted that on Tuesday and Thursday, jets took to the air to identify a Su-30 flying in international airspace to and from Kaliningrad region. On Thursday, NATO fighters scrambled to identify an Il-20 traveling to and from Kaliningrad region. All Russian aircraft had their transponders turned off, flew without a flight plan, and did not maintain communication with the Regional Air Traffic Control Center.

On Friday, NATO jets scrambled to identify an Il-76 and an Il-20. The first aircraft was flying from Kaliningrad region to mainland Russia, and the second was flying to and from Kaliningrad region.

NATO fighters also took off to identify a Su-30, An-72, and Su-35. The latter two aircraft flew from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad region.
