According to Oleksandr Kamyshyn, Minister for Strategic Industries, Ukraine can offer the best conditions for cooperation to international arms and ammunition manufacturers. In an interview with a leading Italian publication, he explained how Ukraine's defence industry is increasing its production rates, why major arms manufacturers are opening their own factories here despite the ongoing hostilities, and how Ukraine is fighting corruption in the defence sector.
Ukraine can become the arsenal of the free world, and the defence industry will develop dynamically for decades. Therefore, there are great opportunities for large international companies to produce and test their products in a real war.
"To produce in Ukraine, to test products in Ukraine, to conduct research and find solutions in Ukraine, to modernise the product in Ukraine. At the end of the war, they will have the best product," said Oleksandr Kamyshin.
In addition, the Ministry for Strategic Industries said that the domestic defence industry had managed to boost ammunition production, but it was still not sufficient to meet the needs of the army. "From January to July, we produced ten times more than in 2022. We are talking about mortars, cannon shells and ammunition," the Minister said.
He also added that Ukraine is constantly looking for partners to strengthen its weapons production capacity and join forces to ensure that the army gets the resources it needs faster.
The Minister for Strategic Industries stressed the need for zero tolerance for corruption in wartime.
"Our team recruits young people into the company, they do not want to spoil their reputation. There have never been any corruption scandals in my management. Corruption in peacetime is a crime, in wartime it is treason," he concluded.
