Almost 194,000 new individual entrepreneurs were registered by Ukrainians in the first 8 months of 2024, while slightly over 120,000 individual entrepreneurs closed during the same period.

This information was reported by the OpenDataBot press service.

It is noted that 193,192 new individual entrepreneurs were registered since the beginning of the year. This is even more than before the start of the full-scale war when 186,144 new individual entrepreneurs were opened during the same period.

During this period, slightly more than 120,000 individual entrepreneurs closed. More than one-third of new businesses close within the first year of operation.

The report also highlights that the share of women among new entrepreneurs is record high at 60%. In comparison, this figure was 55.6% in 2023 and 47% during the first year of the full-scale war.

Currently, the number of new businesses is 1.6 times greater than the number of closures. The median duration of individual entrepreneurs closed this year is 2 years and 7 months.

The highest number of new businesses were registered in the capital — 26,303, or 13.6% of the total new individual entrepreneurs this year. New business registrations are also active in Dnipropetrovsk (18,025), Lviv (14,459), Kyiv (14,428), and Kharkiv (12,954).

It is reported that one-third of new businesses are in the retail sector, while the IT sector attracts 7.6% of new entrepreneurs. The third most popular sector for new businesses is providing individual services (7%). In 2023, cafes and restaurants were among the leaders, but this year, they have been replaced by information services.
