Poland continues to strengthen its defense capability. On July 27, Polish Minister of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczak signed a contract with South Korea to purchase FA-50 light fighters, K2 tanks and K9 self-propelled howitzers.
This is reported by the PAP agency.
The order for K2 tanks is divided into two phases. First, Poland will buy 180 vehicles, and then another 800 tanks. The Poles in 2026 and the Koreans will manufacture these tanks in Poland.
Until 2024, Poland will also purchase more than 600 howitzers from South Korea, and from 2026, these weapons will also be produced in Poland.
Moreover, Poland is buying 48 FA-50 fighter jets. They want to replace the Soviet Su-22 and MiG-29 with these aircraft.
Recently, the Poles handed over PT-91 Twardy tanks to Ukraine; therefore, they will replace what they gave away with Korean equipment.
Earlier, Poland delivered more than 200 T-72 tanks to Ukraine. Poland hopes to make up for these losses with German Leopard tanks. In April, Poland signed a contract to supply 250 American Abrams tanks for the Polish Army.
Poland has decided to acquire about 500 American HIMARS multiple rocket launchers. Also, in Poland, the main air defense system will be the American Patriot.
