The aggressive ambitions of Russia pose a direct threat to the national security of Bulgaria, so the Bulgarian government and the majority in parliament are working on ensuring political, diplomatic, military, and material support for Ukraine. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Nikolay Denkov, at a joint press conference with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.
The head of the Bulgarian government noted that the ongoing full-scale aggression by Russia against Ukraine for the past two years is a war against Europe and the entire democratic world.
"It is already clear that Putin's goal is not just Ukraine; it is much broader. Russian aggressive ambitions are a direct threat to the national security of Bulgaria. Therefore, supporting Ukraine means defending ourselves as well," Denkov said.
He emphasized that Bulgaria unequivocally stands with Ukraine in this unjust brutal war.
"The goal of Russian aggression is either to subjugate or destroy a free country in the heart of Europe. The heroic Ukrainian people are fighting for both their freedom and for peace in Europe and the protection of the prosperity they have become accustomed to over the years. Therefore, the Bulgarian government and the majority in parliament are working to ensure political, diplomatic, military, and material support for Ukraine," the Prime Minister of Bulgaria noted.
Denkov mentioned that Bulgaria supports President Zelensky's Peace Formula to achieve a just peace based on UN principles.
He also stressed that after the war ends, there must be a Tribunal over the aggressor to restore justice.
"I call on the international community for this day to come as soon as possible," Denkov emphasized.
