The German defense giant is preparing to establish a new facility in Ukraine in the short term. The project was previously announced in February.
According to Rheinmetall’s press service, the implementation of the project will begin in the near term, with ammunition production set to start within 24 months.
The exact cost of the deal is not specified, but Rheinmetall describes the amount as a ‘low three-digit million euro’ figure (i.e., more than 100 million euros).
The facility will produce 155 mm artillery shells, including projectile charges. Exact production volumes are not specified, but it will be a ‘six-figure number,’ meaning at least 100,000 rounds per year.

The order underlines the confidence in Rheinmetall's expertise and manufacturing capacities. We are grateful to be able to support the country in its re-industrialisation and in strengthening its defence capability,’ said Rheinmetall AG CEO Armin Papperger.
Measures are currently being taken in the Ukraine to prepare the necessary infrastructure. A joint venture between Rheinmetall and a Ukrainian state-owned company in operating the ammunition plant is about to be established. This was announced at a side-discussion at the Munich Security Conference in February 2024.
