On the evening of July 29, the Russian army struck one of the training units of the Ukrainian Ground Forces with a missile attack. Three soldiers were killed and 18 wounded, the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.

"Despite the security measures taken, unfortunately, it was not possible to completely avoid casualties among personnel. As of 9:30 p.m., there are reports of three soldiers killed and 18 wounded. Emergency services are working at the site. The wounded are being provided with all necessary medical care promptly," the message reads.

A commission led by the head of the Military Law Enforcement Service was created to investigate the circumstances and causes of the casualties, and an official inquiry has been launched. The Armed Forces of Ukraine promised to hold officials accountable if their responsibility for the incident is confirmed.

"If it is determined that the death and injuries of servicemen were caused by actions or inactions of officials, those responsible will be held accountable," the Ukrainian Ground Forces wrote.

According to some reports, the strike targeted a training ground near the settlement of Honcharivske in Chernihiv region, where a training camp for the BTGr of the 169th Training Center of the Ground Forces’ strategic reserve was deployed.

This is at least the third strike on a Ukrainian training ground in recent months. On June 22, Russian forces launched a missile attack on the training center of a mechanized brigade near Davydov Brod in Kherson region. At that time, three soldiers were reported killed and 14 wounded. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky drew attention to the situation, demanding a detailed report and stressing that this was not the first such attack. On June 1, the Russian army fired missiles at the 239th training ground of the Ukrainian Ground Forces in Dnipropetrovsk region, killing 12 servicemen and injuring more than 60. The commander of the Ground Forces, Mykhailo Drapatyi, resigned.

On May 20, Russian forces struck a Ukrainian shooting range in Sumy region. Reports indicated six killed and over 10 wounded. An official investigation was launched.
