A Russian missile strike on the city of Dnipro has caused significant destruction, with at least one confirmed fatality and multiple injuries reported. The attack damaged schools, medical facilities, and residential areas, highlighting the ongoing threat to civilian infrastructure across Ukraine.
Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov confirmed the extent of the damage in a statement on Facebook, saying,
“Following another enemy shelling in Dnipro, 14 schools and kindergartens were affected. A city hospital and a clinic were also damaged. There is significant destruction in the private sector. According to preliminary information, there is one fatality.”
Serhii Lysak, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, reported that a fire broke out as a result of the strike. Among the damaged facilities are a dormitory, a gymnasium, and an administrative building.
"Unfortunately, there are casualties and injured everywhere," he noted.
Russian forces also targeted the town of Samara, though details about the strike there are still being verified.
The attack extended beyond urban targets. According to Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia), missile debris damaged train No. 52 on the Odesa–Zaporizhzhia route as it passed through the Dnipropetrovsk region. Emergency services responded swiftly, and all passengers were evacuated to shelters amid an ongoing air raid alert. Ukrzaliznytsia is arranging a replacement train in Dnipro to allow passengers to continue their journey.
Local authorities and emergency teams continue to assess the damage and provide assistance. The strike is part of a broader pattern of Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure, which have intensified in recent weeks.
