Polish defense company Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa and South Korean company Hyundai Rotem have signed an agreement to form a consortium for tank production. The costs for this are estimated at $15 billion.
This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Poland.
It is noted that after this, the parties will sign a contract for the production of 180 K2PL tanks, which will be based on the South Korean K2 "Black Panther" tank.
In addition, the K2PL tank will be localized with Polish components. Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa will coordinate the production of tanks and related vehicles, command and repair vehicles. They will also be manufactured in Poland.
Preliminary estimates put the cost of tank production at $15 billion. Of this, $5 billion will be spent on equipment procurement. Partial funding will come from Poland's state budget.
It is worth noting that Poland has begun actively arming itself against the backdrop of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. This includes purchasing armament systems from various countries.
