From July 24 to 30, the best films of the Odessa International Film Festival (OIFF) will be shown at the Green Theater


Viewers will be able to see the seven movies that participated in the programmes of 2015-2019. The cost of the tickets are 110 and 160 uah. Each show starts at 21:30. The movies will be shown in the original language with Ukrainian subtitles.

Dolor y gloria (2019)

Spanish film director Salvador Mallo is in the middle of a creative crisis, afflicted with physical and mental ailments, just as an earlier film of his (Sabor, or Flavor) has been remastered and re-released to appreciative audiences. Prompted by his old friend, Zulema (Cecilia Roth) he calls in on Alberto Crespo (Asier Etxeandia), the lead actor from Sabor, with whom he has not spoken for 32 years due to a quarrel over the influence of the actor's heroin use on his performance. Crespo introduces Salvador to heroin smoking.

Vadim works as a sound engineer and musician, encounters a lot of problems and has many setbacks. The same crisis awaits him in his personal life. After all, the сanadian company invites him to record the sounds of Ukrainian animals in Transcarpathia. The guy with enthusiasm and creativity agrees to fulfill the order. But the mother who went with him constantly disturbs and distracts him. If Vadim manages to record the voice of a rare Rakhiv mallard, he may be able to leave "uncomfortable Ukraine" and travel to "attractive Canada." But not everything is so simple…

Cynical twentysomething Dan has just died of cancer, and has posthumously ordered his two best friends Seph and Alex to go on a road trip across Britain to scatter his ashes in personally important locations, for reasons he announces in separate videos which they have promised to watch in each place. Seph and Alex take turns driving. Dan is in the glove compartment, in tupperware, decreasing in volume as the trip progresses. The film is a coming-of-age tale, written by Charlie Covell and inspired by the Jack Kerouac novel On the Road published in 1957.

Victoria (2015)

Victoria is a Spanish girl who moved to Berlin and has been living there for three months. She works in a cafe for a meager wage, and does not know anybody in the city. Leaving a club at around 4 o’clock in the morning after a night of dancing and drinking, she meets four young men who are denied entry to the club. The film was shot in a single long take by Sturla Brandth Grøvlen from about 4:30 AM to 7:00 AM on 27 April 2014 in the Kreuzberg and Mitte neighborhoods. The script consisted of twelve pages, with most of the dialogue being improvised.

The Man Who Bought the Moon (2018)

The Italian intelligence agency obtains intelligence too hard to believe: An unidentified man living in Sardinia is the real owner of the moon. The news is instantly relayed to all intelligence agencies in the world, and with each government claiming that they have the rights to the moon, they decide to dispatch a Sardinia-born secret agent into the island. Though the agent really was born in Sardinia, he has since lost all characteristics of a Sardinian, and must get private lessons to learn what it is to be a Sardinian. In facet a Sardinian fisherman has promised the moon to the woman he loves. And Sardinian men always keep their promises.

King of the Belgians (2016)

While Nicolas III, King of the Belgians, is doing an official visit to Istanbul, breaking news arrives: Wallonia just declared its independence and so Belgium doesn't exist any more. In order to face the political crisis, Nicolas III decides to quickly come back home, but due to a geomagnetic storm all the flights are blocked. Therefore, the King and his staff decide to try to reach Belgium overland, but this becomes very difficult. The hard trip becomes not only a desperate (and comical) travel across the Balkans, but also an inner trip where Nicolas III tries to understand who he really is. It received five nominations at the 8th Magritte Awards, including Best Flemish Film. Its sequel, The Barefoot Emperor, premiered at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival

Portrait de la jeune fille en feu (2019)

Set in France in the late 18th century, the film tells the story of a forbidden affair between an aristocrat and a painter commissioned to paint her portrait. At the end of the eighteenth century, Marianne, a young painter, is teaching painting lessons. One of her students asks her about a painting of hers, which Marianne calls Portrait de la jeune fille en feu.Years previously, Marianne arrives on a distant island in Brittany. She has been commissioned to paint a portrait of a young woman named Héloïse, who is to be married off to a Milanese nobleman.
