The FSB announced the “disclosure of the murder” of Daria Dugina - it was allegedly committed by a citizen of Ukraine and organised by the Ukrainian special services. According to this statement, made on the second day after the crime, the perpetrator was Natalya Pavlovna Vovk, born in 1979. According to the FSB, she entered Russia on July 23, 2022, with her minor daughter Sophia Shaban, and left the Russian Federation after the murder.

It follows from the FSB statement that Vovk and his daughter allegedly rented an apartment in the house where Darya Dugina lived (to get “information about her lifestyle”) and followed her, moving around in a Mini Cooper car. This car, as stated by the special service, had a car number from the self-proclaimed DPR when entering Russia, then it was replaced with a Kazakhstani number, and when leaving the Russian Federation - with a Ukrainian one.

On the day of the murder on August 20, Vovk and his daughter were allegedly also at the "family festival" "Traditsiya", where Dugin was. “After a controlled explosion of a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado car driven by Dugina, on August 21, Vovk and her daughter left through the Pskov region to Estonia,” the FSB said.

A TASS source in law enforcement suggested that Natalya Vovk came to Russia with forged documents. According to the state news agency, the Russian Federation intends to put her on the international wanted list.

Later, the FSB published a video in which Natalya Vovk “enters Russia, moves into the same house with the victim and leaves for Estonia.” Videos at the border appear to have been filmed by border guards' body cameras; footage of "settlement in the same house with the victim" - a camera installed in the entrance. The FSB also released screenshots from road cameras showing what the security service claims are different license plates on the same Mini Cooper.

The NemeZida project's website, which publishes Ukrainian servicemen's data, contains information about Natalya Shaban, born in 1979. The project is being run by a group of pro-Russian developers and cybersecurity experts. On the NemeZide, Natalya Shaban is called a serviceman of the Azov regiment; there is a copy of her certificate indicating military unit No. 3057, in which the 12th brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine, including Azov, is stationed.

The origin of this document published back in April is unknown. The FSB report does not mention Natalya Vovk's connection with Azov. The Azov Regiment stated that she had no connection with the unit. According to the press service of the regiment, the murder of Daria Dugina is "preparation for a" tribunal "over the Azov people", with the help of which the Russian Federation "heats up the public opinion of its citizens about the" need "of such a trial."

Alexander Dugin, on August 22 named the murder of his daughter "a terrorist attack carried out by the Nazi Ukrainian regime." He stated that Daria Dugina was "a rising star at the beginning of her journey", "never called for violence and war," and laid her life on the altar of Russian victory. “So win, please! We wanted to raise her to be smart and a hero. Even now, let it inspire the sons of our Motherland,” he said.

On August 22, Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to Dugina's parents. In his telegram, the deceased is called "a bright, talented person with a real Russian heart - kind, loving, sympathetic and open." “A journalist, scientist, philosopher, war correspondent, she honestly served the people, the Fatherland, she proved by deed what it means to be a patriot of Russia,” Putin said.
