The Netherlands has officially launched a mission to protect a key logistics hub in Poland through which NATO countries deliver military aid to Ukraine, deploying Patriot and NASAMS air-defense systems.
As reported by the Dutch Ministry of Defence, the mission began on December 1, 2025, and will continue until June 1, 2026.
“The Netherlands is securing the logistics hub supporting Ukraine with two Patriot air-defense systems, a NASAMS system, counter-drone systems, and 300 military personnel,” the statement said. It is noted that they are stationed near Rzeszów–Jasionka Airport, a major transit point for international assistance.
“The Netherlands is providing advanced capabilities for multi-layered air defense. In doing so, we are protecting the logistical supply routes to Ukraine, defending NATO’s eastern flank, and increasing our own level of preparedness. This is one of the first times we are deploying such a combination of systems simultaneously. We are showing Russia that there is no point in attacking this center. This strengthens the security of Poland, Ukraine, NATO, and the Netherlands,” said Dutch Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans.
The Dutch contribution includes the creation of an integrated unit that combines three components. In addition to the two Patriot systems, it includes a NASAMS system and anti-drone systems. Together with partners, the Netherlands is providing a multi-layered air-defense capability that will counter potential threats such as ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, fighter jets, helicopters, and drones.
NATO countries rotate responsibility for guarding this logistics hub. Germany held the previous rotation, using some of the same systems. NATO has yet to determine which country will take over after June 1, 2026.
It is also noted that the Netherlands previously helped protect Polish airspace by deploying F-35 fighter jets. This F-35 detachment is now being withdrawn from service. Together with Norwegian colleagues, the Netherlands monitored NATO airspace from September 1 to December 1, 2025. That deployment also aimed to deter Russia and protect military equipment en route to Ukraine.
