The Finnish government believes that nothing has changed in Russia, so there is currently no sense in opening border checkpoints with this country. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo made this statement, as reported by Yle.

"The security of borders is such an important issue for Finland that I have the greatest significance in decision-making," he stated.

Orpo believes that further measures are necessary on the eastern border. The government is expected to make a new decision in the next few days, as the current decision to close the border expires on Sunday.

"Judging from the information I have now, nothing has changed in Russia. I believe the threat assessment is similar. This indicates the need for further actions," he said.

Orpo added that Finland will not open the border if there are clear signs or a threat that Russia will immediately resume its hybrid operation. According to the Prime Minister, this decision will be subject to a thorough official assessment. Currently, the security assessment is being updated, significantly influencing the decision-making process.

Orpo also emphasized that the most important thing is to maintain a peaceful border. An uncontrolled situation should not arise.
