After another attack by Russian forces on the Orlivka border checkpoint in the Odessa region, the facility’s infrastructure sustained significant destruction, and its restoration may take several weeks.
This was reported on television by the spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko.
“I cannot make a precise forecast yet, but the restoration may take several weeks, because this time many of the infrastructure facilities at this checkpoint were severely damaged,” Demchenko explained.
He clarified that the buildings where control procedures are carried out—both by the State Border Guard Service and other inspection agencies—suffered major damage, and the inspection and processing boxes for vehicles were destroyed.
“Traffic through this checkpoint is available for trucks, buses, and regular passenger cars. The infrastructure facilities are located both on the territory of Ukraine and on the adjacent Romanian side. Movement between the countries is ensured by a ferry—this is a ferry crossing—and unfortunately, Russia has attacked this checkpoint repeatedly,” Demchenko said.
He emphasized that this time the scale of destruction is particularly large and will require time to restore normal operations.
