On the evening of November 4th, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a missile strike on the Zaliv shipyard in Kerch.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, they managed to intercept 13 out of 15 missiles with their air defense forces. The Ministry of Defense also stated that one of the ships at the shipyard was damaged as a result of the missile impact.
In response, the Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Nikolay Oleshchuk, commented on the attack, stating that the strike on the Zaliv shipyard was carried out by Ukrainian tactical aviation. He mentioned that at the time of the attack, one of the most modern ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles, was present at the shipyard.
The ship "Askold" is known as a carrier of Kalibr cruise missiles and is equipped with the Pantsir-M air defense missile system, as well as a reconnaissance drone system.
The Commander also suggested that the Ukrainian Armed Forces used SCALP cruise missiles (the French variant of the British Storm Shadow missiles) for the strike.
The Zaliv shipyard, as reported by "Krym.Realii," is one of the largest shipbuilding enterprises in Eastern Europe. Since 2020, they have been constructing aircraft carriers for the Russian Navy.
In September, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched an attack on the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet in the annexed city of Sevastopol, as well as on the Orjonikidze ship repair plant, resulting in damage to two Russian ships. According to Ukrainian military sources, the Russian large landing ship and a submarine were among the targets hit in Sevastopol.
