The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and the National Police have detained another agent of Russian military intelligence (commonly known as the GRU) in Zaporizhzhia. Acting on Russian forces' orders, he was supposed to manufacture a series of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) for terrorist attacks in the frontline region.
According to case materials, the accomplice of Russia turned out to be a drug-addicted resident of Zaporizhzhia. He agreed to cooperate with the Russian forces in exchange for the promise of "easy money."
The investigation established that his primary task was to manufacture IEDs and transport them to concealed caches, so-called "hiding places."
However, before carrying out this terrorist mission, the perpetrator had to complete a "test task" for the Russians—distributing anti-Ukrainian leaflets across the city.
Additionally, following the instructions of his handler, the man unwittingly used acquaintances and assessed their potential for recruitment.
SSU and National Police officers documented the suspect’s criminal activities and detained him at his residence.
During searches, law enforcement seized mobile phones used for communication with his handler and components for manufacturing IEDs.
SSU investigators have formally charged the detainee under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).
The suspect has been remanded in custody without the possibility of bail.
